March 28, 2020   Today was the second major time this year working the bees. Analyzing their buildup, seeing how many drones, marking colonies with inferior queens.  Out of the approx. 150 I looked at today, only 3 needed to be replaced in the near future.
Several drones present so I have selected the strong colonies I want to be cell builders and will graft tomorrow from one of my breeder queens to start the first round of raising queens this year.
For those of you who have purchased nucs and single story colonies, if we don't get any long cold snaps or long bouts of rain, they will be ready in approx 3 to 4 weeks, will keep all advised.
The dead nettle has been blooming steadily for 2 weeks now.  In this bee yard it was thick.
